Truckee River Day

Truckee River Day is an annual community restoration event hosted by the Truckee River Watershed Council, where volunteers of all ages come together to heal and protect the Truckee River Watershed. Since 1996, participants have worked on hands-on projects—like planting willows, improving trails, and restoring streambanks—to support clean water, healthy habitats, and resilient ecosystems.

Healing the Watershed

Restoration projects on Truckee River Day play a vital role in revitalizing the health and resilience of the watershed. By engaging in activities like planting native vegetation, stabilizing streambanks, and building natural features such as beaver dam analogs, volunteers help improve water quality, enhance wildlife habitat, and support groundwater recharge. These efforts not only repair past environmental damage but also strengthen the ecosystem's ability to withstand drought, wildfire, and climate change—ensuring the Truckee River continues to thrive for future generations.

Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships (SWEP) is collaborating with the Truckee River

Watershed Council to coordinate this year's Truckee River Day & Fair on Sunday, October 19th from 1-4pm at the Granite Flat Campground on Highway 89. The Truckee River Day Fair is the annual celebration of the Truckee River that concludes a day of river, meadow

and wetland restoration projects.

The River Fair is a family-friendly event that includes live music and entertainment, local food, art projects, environmental education activities and a native fish release. Children and their families, community members and many of the restoration volunteers take part in this annual celebration.
