Truckee River Day Restoration & Fair 2019

We were blessed with a beautiful, sunny day for the annual Truckee River Day & Fair this fall on October 20th. The day was split into two parts: restoration along the Truckee River and a family festival at the Granite Flat Campground.

In the morning, volunteers worked hard at various locations along the Truckee River doing restoration work removing invasive weeds, planting willow bushes, etc... in various location along the Truckee River. SWEP brought a crew of high school students from the local Envirolution Clubs from Truckee and North Tahoe High Schools. These students worked together with SWEP's Executive Director, Missy Mohler, in Russell Valley. This section of the day was excellently organized by Truckee River Watershed Council.

After the restoration projects volunteers and families ventured to the Granite Flat Campground for a family festival and lunch. The fair kicked off with the Glenshire Choir singing their favorite river and Truckee themed songs. The afternoon continued with lunch provided by Epic Promise and ice cream from Little Truckee Ice Creamery. As attendees meandered through the tables put on by local environmental organizations and agencies the children enjoyed the art projects and everyone listened to the lovely sounds of Abby Osborn and her guitar that were amplified by the peddling of students on SWEP's bike powered speaker, as this was an energy-free event.

Thanks to all the volunteers and our partners, including Truckee River Watershed Council!
