Service learning projects are at the core of what SWEP does. We work closely between our community partners and classrooms in order to involve students in projects that serve the community and bring context to the classroom curriculum. SWEP prepares youth for environmental service projects by introducing them to community issues through classroom presentations, field studies and monitoring, restoration and public outreach projects.

SWEP continually offers a wide variety of field projects that complement the in-class instruction that students receive in our local schools. These projects vary according to the seasons and according to the needs of our community partners.
For example:
- students at North Tahoe Middle School analyzed forest health in Burton Creek State Park for a proposed prescribed burn, writing letters to the state park recommending action
- students at Alder Creek Middle School monitored forest health at Sagehen Creek Field Station, with extenisve field work in species identification and reflection
- students at Kings Beach ES enriched the soil in planter boxes and planted native, decorative, and food plants; students learned about composting and soil development
- Rideout Elementary summer school students planted seedlings at a local nursery for a future Reforestation project
- North Tahoe Intermediate students studied Burton Creek and learned how to conduct the Bioassessment of Macroinvertebrates.
- Sierra Mountain Middle School students conducted Plant Surveys and conducted Stream Flow Monitoring along Trout Creek in Truckee.
- Rideout Elementary School students learned about Vegetation Mapping and Water Quality Monitoring along Ward Creek; students learned about Insects and Native Plants in their Community Garden
- Students at Prosser Creek Charter School learned about Revegetation and Growing Native Grasses.
