The Winter Discovery Program is an on the snow program that incorporates winter ecology themes with cross country skiing. Participating students in the 2010 season will monitor snow depth, snow water equivalent, and total snow; using a remote camera station, students will be able to monitor the winter wildlife in the forest surrounding the Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area.
There are still spaces open for the 2010 season. Please call Valli Murnane at the Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area, 530-583-5475.
The Winter Discovery Center is now hosting classes from all Tahoe Truckee Elementary schools and charter schools for the Winter Discovery Program. This program covers the topics of Winter Water, Weather and Animals and is designed for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes. The program includes data collection and experiments. To learn more about the program, view the Winter Discovery Program overview.
This program is made possible through a partnership between SWEP and the Tahoe Cross Country Ski Education Association; generous grants from Excellence in Education and Lahontan Community Foundation; Gourmet Ski Tour; and numerous private donations.
