Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships
Currently, SWEP is working with the Town of Truckee to involve youth and the community at large in the current phase of the Trout creek restoration project. In 2oo6, the culvert that moves Trout creek under the highway was replaced with a larger flow capacity culvert. The new culvert is large enough to accomodate the 100 year storm.

Truckee River Day 2007
Jan Ellis, SWEP Project Director, helped to lead participants for the annual Truckee River Day. Students from Glenshire and Truckee Elementary schools along with their parents and other community volunteers helped to weed existing plants, spread native grass and wildflower seed and spread pine needle mulch.
"School of Trout" public art project 2007
5th grade students from Glenshire and Truckee Elementary schools participated in a public art project in which they painted 'trout' that were planted at Trout creek for Truckee River Day. The project was the inspiration of Truckee Mayor Richard Anderson, who in collaboroation with SWEP, Town of Truckee, and Arts for the Schools was able to have 5th graders paint 107 fish! For the students, the art project was a continuation of their environmental studies program at Sagehen Creek Field Station. As part of the Sagehen Outdoor Environmental program, SWEP hosted students for a water quality monitoring/fish habitat station.
Thanks to Nevada County Forest Reserve Fund and Town of Truckee for making these projects possible.
Trout Creek Restoration Project: Our History
SWEP first began the relationship with the Town of Truckee on the Trout Creek Restoration Project in 2001. At this time, the Town was planning for the future restoration of Trout creek, which is slated to happen in phases.
In 2002, students from Michael Arrington's 5th grade class monitored reached one and two of Trout Creek. This is the portion that border the parking lot of the Catholic church. The student's monitoring data and research about the history of Trout creek was presented to the public in June of 2002.
