Join LTEEC members and Tahoe Basin teacher and administrators for the Fifth Annual Meeting of the Lake Tahoe Environmental Education Coalition. The Symposium will focus on innovative teaching methods that increase student motivation and boost student performance on standardized proficiency tests.
By shining the spotlight on K-12 programs, this year's LTEEC Annual Meeting will bring teachers, natural resource managers, and community leaders together to form local partnerships to enhance student learning and help reach environmental goals in the Tahoe Basin.

Our goal is to inspire you whether you are an educator, administrator or natural resource professional; and to provide the tools and contacts you need to create relationships to help students meet proficiency standards, agencies conduct effective public outreach, and even improve the local environment.
8:45 – 9:15 Introduction to Place-based Service Learning at Lake Tahoe
There is mounting evidence of improved student performance associated with Place-based Learning programs (State Environmental Education Roundtable, www.seer.org). Learn more about the teaching and learning process that promotes stewardship by using the local environment as a context for standards-based learning.
9:15 – 9:45 Status Report on School-based Programs at Lake Tahoe
Existing support networks, programs, and resources for school-based programs at Lake Tahoe.
9:45 – 10:00 Break
10:00 – 11:00 Tools in the Toolbox – for Teachers and Resource Professionals
Tools for every level of participation including presentations, videos, curriculum, professional development opportunities, off-campus programs, and service-learning projects.
11:00 – 11:30 Tahoe’s Environmental Issues: Agency Perspectives and Priorities
What are the main issues and messages important in the Tahoe Basin today? Join Tahoe Basin leaders for an overview of local issues and the programs, such as the Environmental Improvement Program (EIP) and Pathway 2007, which will set the stage for the future.
11:30 – 1:00 Lunch, Networking and Educational Booths
Use this time to sign up for available workshops, collect curriculum materials, meet local resource professionals and create new partnerships.
Visit booths on Project WET, Project Learning Tree, Space Science for Schools, TAO, TREE, TIIMS, Great Basin Outdoor School, Marine Research & Education, Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships, TRPA, US Forest Service, and more.
