These nonprofit organizations actively support place-based learning and service-learning in the Lake Tahoe Basin and Truckee River Watershed.
- Lake Tahoe Environmental Education Coalition (LTEEC): The goal of the Lake Tahoe Environmental Education Coalition, or LTEEC, is to assist many different groups and educational organizations in working together to educate the public about how to prevent the pollution of Lake Tahoe. We are working collaboratively toward a comprehensive environmental education strategy for the Lake Tahoe Basin. Outreach programs are designed to educate residents, visitors, businesses and government agencies.
- Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships (SWEP): "To promote environmental stewardship through comprehensive watershed education, service-learning, and collaborative hands-on community projects." (serves primarily the TTUSD service area)
- Teachers Association for Outdoor and Adventure Education (TAO): TAO Education is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which provides natural history, field science, and outdoor education experiences customized to the special needs of school groups, youth groups, and low income/disadvantaged youth. Through TAO Education, individual youths and youth groups otherwise unable to acquire this experience, are able to learn about the environment and out of doors. (server primarily the TTUSD service area)
- Great Basin Outdoor School (GBOS): Great Basin Outdoor School offers experienced naturalists and grade-specific programming in an outdoor setting where teachers bring their classes to study for several days at a time. Students discover and explore the natural environment through hands-on activities in small groups. They build confidence and teamwork skills and develop more respect and appreciation for themselves, for each other, and for the environment. Nevada's rich natural and human history comes alive, and the curriculum based program also encompasses math, writing, physical, and creative activities. (serves the Truckee River and Carson River Watersheds)
- Marine Research & Education (MR&E): "On the Water, Hands on Learning School, Teaching 'Conservation thru Education'" Two hour boat trip teaches Tahoe's Uniqueness, Clarity, Food web unique to Tahoe environment, Lack of flushing/turnover at Tahoe, and Discuss minnow trapping/fishing.
- Truckee River Watershed Council (TRWC): "The Truckee River Watershed Council was founded in May 1998 to develop and implement locally developed public-private collaborative solutions to protect and improve water quality and biological resources for the sustainable environmental and economic health of the Truckee River watershed."
- Environmental Leadership: "Environmental Leadership, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, was organized in 1990 to serve as a primary source of environmental information and education to the northern Nevada public. It is our goal to keep people informed, and to encourage informed action, on the important environmental issues impacting our region and quality of life. Our intention is to draw upon local resources and through knowledge, information, and action create a useful resource for the community at large."
- Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA): "To enhance, expand, and promote the Tahoe Rim Trail system, practice and encourage stewardship, and provide access to the beauty of the Lake Tahoe region."
- The League to Save Lake Tahoe: " The League to Save Lake Tahoe is the leading environmental organization advocating for the protection and restoration of Lake Tahoe."
- Tahoe Center for a Sustainable Future: may be inactive
