Community Leaders in the Classroom
Community Leaders in the Classroom are educators from agencies, organizations, and businesses who provide education for K-12 students in the classroom, on the schoolyard, and during field trips. SWEP offers the Community Leaders in the Classroom (CLC) training at least once per year, usually in a four-hour format.
The four-hour workshop includes:
- Meeting your organization or business goals through high quality education and outreach programs; educational programs can increase public support for and understanding of the Environmental Improvement Program (EIP) and the missions of all the partners in meeting EIP goals
- Place-based service learning; find out how to enhance learning through action projects
- Group management techniques for the classroom, schoolyard and field
- Cognitive development stages of k-12 students and tips for effectively working with students at each stage
- Understanding and meeting state educational standards; assessing and understanding how the educational goals of schools can work with your program
- How to implement inquiry-based lessons and lesson planning
- Learn about the theory of multiple intelligences and ways to incorporate it into presentations
- Working effectively with teachers and other school staff, including interpreting educational jargon and scheduling yourself into school programs
Please see the flier and agenda from the last workshop to get an idea of how you'll benefit.
A database of Community Leaders is also available as an Excel spreadsheet for download (last update 2004).
